Aww, she can't afford a four-day-a-week personal trainer with the recession... I guess that's what prompted these changes at Activision.
Hometown: Kaysville, Utah
They lived in Seattle (of course) when he worked for Microsoft, but now he's living in Laguna Beach, California to work with Blizzard.
Some of his relatives:
Consuelo F Canessa, mother? grandmother? Birth: 10 Oct 1913, California, Death: 4 Oct 2006
Mark Anthony Canessa and Bonnie L Canessa
Stephanie Renee Canessa (nee Brusiee)... his sister-in-law maybe?
She's a state farm agent
Keep it coming brotha. This is as of right now the single most important thing on the internet about this story.
ReplyDeleteOh and don't forget to out Thomas Tippl. Activision's COO.
Thanks for doing this bro. I'm going to town with all this shit.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't personally endorse this, but this is something that needs to drive the point home.
ReplyDeleteThe Internet is powerful stuff, and Blizzard just awakened the beast, betting everything on a shady marketing chip.
I hope this will not bite them in the butt. I love WoW, but I hate this mandatory 'optional' feature.
"Aww, she can't afford a four-day-a-week personal trainer with the recession... I guess that's what prompted these changes at Activision."
ReplyDeleteLMFAO.
holy shit i went to Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland, CA too! fuckin crazy
ReplyDeletewhats wrong with you.
ReplyDeleteyou DONT HAVE TO USE THE FORUMS.
if you dont use them - its private. get over it.
whats wrong with you.
ReplyDeleteyou DONT HAVE TO USE THE FORUMS.
if you dont use them - its private. get over it.
True, you don't have to use the forums, can turn on your parental controls, never use RealID...now.
ReplyDeleteBut do you honestly believe it's going to stop here? I don't.
Granted I'm waiting to see what comes about as of this. I'm more than willing to walk away from Blizzard games over this.
Anybody can take anybodies name and put it in a spotlight and make snide comments about them. They usually don't because it's kind of rude. Oh right, this is just a demonstration... You're still a tool for doing it. Next, you can prove how easy it is for someone to bring a gun on a plane and start randomly firing it...
ReplyDeleteAmber you completely fail at understanding the whole outroar about RealID. People like you are proven to be naive this is the very last step in the grant plans they have with Facebook. Do you honestly believe RealID will stay a choice within the game? Dream on.
ReplyDeleteActivision has decided to make this game a Facebook game which means true RMT will come next.
Another reason why it is really stupid to see no problem with this is that people who have never even touched this game can becomes the ones who will get harassed in your name and this is NOT okay. Activision (I refuse to blame Blizzard on this when it is likely many Blizzard employees aren't too happy about this either) could have easily used forum handles to make trolls more accountable but this change will simply allow trolls to go on outside of the forum making trolling actually life threatening. If you think that won't happen I have got you a bridge to sell.
People pro-RealID really live in some kind of dreamworld where harassment simply doesn't happen and everyone has a common name. And even when you have a common name someone else can become the target because they share your name.
I don't agree with everything posted on this blog. I don't like it that people can now trash someone's wedding. I don't mind if the employees who are actually responsible for this feature to be called out. It isn't too hard to guess who is behind this. It is clear Kotick started this all, it completely fits into his alley.
You are such a fucking tool.
ReplyDeletemore Activision employees information required!
ReplyDeleteI kind of feel sorry for their wives, they have nothing to do with all this. They should be left out of this. You are going to do nothing but get people upset by posting their information.
ReplyDeleteAmber: "if you dont use them - its private. get over it."
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but that's wrong. Even now there are ways to get people's real names through the RealID system without their knowing about it. All it takes is a little trojan in an add-on: http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/07/07/wow-real-id-system-security-flaw-found/
Anon: "You are such a fucking tool."
ReplyDeleteHey, all he's doing here is giving us a preview of what the typical WoW inter-guild slap-fight will look like once the new expansion goes live. This is the future of end-game play right here.

Your next person needs to be Kent Goertzen, a.k.a. Angaravan, the biggest pro-Real ID troll in the megathread, imo.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many people are actually going to quit playing Blizzard games over this?
ReplyDeleteI canceled and got a refund for all 3 of my accounts. I can't post on the forums anymore.
ReplyDeletebtw, you can't get through via any phone number today.
You do understand that not all of these employees or all employees of Blizzard had any say in this decision. Posting random employees' personal lives to the Internet is basically screwing them for something that they had no control over and could potentially hate as much as you. Posting someone's name to the Internet versus collecting and posting everything you can possibly find about a person in one location is a completely different activity. I am a big opponent of the RealID plan, but I feel terrible for how these and other peoples' privacies have been violated. Except Bobby Kotick. He can suck it.
ReplyDeleteRealID won't stop in the forums. Stop saying "if u dont like it dont post" you feed the beast.
ReplyDeleteAnd fuck these guys and their wives. We are not sorry for showcasing a huge flaw in the RealID system.
Also I love that "blue" posters won't be subjugated to this travesty.
While I do not like the readid at all, you can see through this blog just why it is wrong, maybe legal, but wrong.
ReplyDeleteGuild and game issues are real and can get very out of control. If you don't think this will happen to paying customers, you are very ignorant of the game and the nature of people.
You ninja the alar mount, and you can bet if someone now knows your real name, they will be looking you up.
If the employees cry as hard as we are, maybe just maybe someone will listen. But, they are silent.

ReplyDeleteA: can everyone with a (filled and connected) facebook account please just shut the fuck up about the privacy of your real name.
ReplyDeleteB: this personal information might be a thread the company cause they are a good preparation of social engineering attacks (so watch you source, hihi)
C: i dont like this blog cause you are trying
to motivate the company by 'threaten the employees in some kind of way'. (think about a very concerned or scared wive or mother - no one deserves that :)
D: dear blizzard i know you since long time what's up ? - is it that hard to just do a 'post my real name yes/no - option setting'? whats your motivation?

What, it's okay for the players to go through this sort of thing, but not the company?
You just know that what's going to happen is the forum trolling will go IRL. Some forum troll calls up the home of some other forum troll, they're going to yell at whoever answers the phone. Nevermind if it's the wrong house and someone's grandma answers, or someone's six-year-old daughter answers the phone, they're going to get an earful of anal rape threats. It won't happen a lot, but it WILL happen once this goes live.
That's okay for players. But heaven forbid it's some CEOs wife, that would be an important person and that would be wrong!!
well i got your point. anonymity for evey1 u don't get my point :)
ReplyDeletebut also please remember if you fe 'buy warez from rapidshare' by cc or if you play games online and by them by cc you are not an anon downloader or gamer any more. you trust the company that you data is kept safe and that they are not misusing it... also in the future...no you are connected/addicted to the company so you can not 'just piss off' if they try to gamble with your private life /real name
"What, it's okay for the players to go through this sort of thing, but not the company?"
ReplyDelete"That's okay for players. But heaven forbid it's some CEOs wife, that would be an important person and that would be wrong!!"
--I don't think it's okay for anyone to have to go through this. If you don't support RealID b/c it will potentially lead to stalking and harassment, there's no reason to do this to anyone else, including employees (or siblings or children or wives) of an incredibly large corporation like Activision-Blizzard. I don't know where you work, but I'm sure you don't have control over everything that gets decided there unless you're the CEO, so why should random employees at Blizzard suffer for the mistakes of their management?
nice finds man, i posted some stuff in your other thread, basically the naems of some eu posters:
ReplyDeletehttp://asnowstormbyanyothername.blogspot.com/2010/07/list-of-names-of-blizzard-employees.html?showComment=1278620506384#c1686242297407271884
and posts below it too with more info!
Don't be so melodramatic. If you don't like the realID thing, stop using Blizzard's stupid products. If you aren't even able to do that, you have worse problems than some forum.
ReplyDeleteBesides, I don't know why Blizzard's employees are responsible for you people being mindless consumers.
Keep fighting the good fight, man. It's unfortunate this is necessary but they fired the first shot. Anyone who continued working at Blizzard/Activision/whatever once this news broke supports it by proxy by continuing to work there and is therefore fair game.
ReplyDeleteThis is what will happen to OUR families. THIS is what they've placed ON THE LINE for their money-grubbing vision of a future Blizzard facebook clone. IT WILL NOT STOP AT THE FORUMS, if you believe that you are naive.
"Anyone who continued working at Blizzard/Activision/whatever once this news broke supports it by proxy by continuing to work there and is therefore fair game."
ReplyDeleteHow are things going to get changed at Blizzard if everyone just quits who doesn't agree with RealID?
"Don't be so melodramatic?" Please. It will be no time at all before someone is physically threatened or harmed by this, and it's all about money. That's abhorrent.
ReplyDelete"Don't use the forums?" I won't! I'm not going to. That would be STUPID. But people who don't know any better deserve to be protected from leeches like Bobby Kotick who see nothing but dollar signs. That's how our whole country got in this mess - the greedy were left to run amok, and they left our country bruised and broken. Keep looking the other way, but don't come down on bloggers like this guy for doing what's right.
Fuck Blizzard. Since they announced SC2, it's been downhill all the way. They can shove their Facebook clone up their asses.
ReplyDeleteAs you post connections to employees personal websites/fb etc, they are being locked down, one can only hope that they are beginning to see the fatal flaw in this idea, before it actually becomes fatal.
ReplyDelete"This is what will happen to OUR families. THIS is what they've placed ON THE LINE for their money-grubbing vision of a future Blizzard facebook clone. IT WILL NOT STOP AT THE FORUMS, if you believe that you are naive."
ReplyDeleteYou know, you could just stop using their products. Problems solved.
You're encouraging people who are anonymous to stalk other people.
ReplyDeleteThe only point you're proving is that people on the internet are more likely to act like assholes when hiding behind an anonymous wall.
"You're encouraging people who are anonymous to stalk other people."
ReplyDeleteNo he's not. He's just collected some publically available information. That is not stalking. And he's specifically stated that he does not want to cause anything bad to happen.
If you nonetheless think that he is encouraging stalking, then you must also think the same thing is going to be true about Blizzard when they start forcing people to reveal their real names. It's exactly the same thing in principal.
"What, it's okay for the players to go through this sort of thing, but not the company?"
ReplyDeleteThere is one notable flaw in your logic though, the players are not yet subjected to this and quite possibly will never be. Judging by the massive opposition on the forums/internet it's quite possible blizzard will scrap the idea or re-tool it in a more satisfactory way.
For the record I'm against the use of first and last names (or RealID), but until its to the point of no return - 100% guaranteed - I'll leave my personal attacks, tar & feathers at home and voice my opposition responsibly.
- Greg
"You know, you could just stop using their products. Problems solved."
ReplyDeleteCompletely missed the point. If one person, anywhere, is harmed by this that is one person too many. Doesn't matter if it's me or someone I've never met before. That's a problem for me.
"Completely missed the point. If one person, anywhere, is harmed by this that is one person too many. Doesn't matter if it's me or someone I've never met before. That's a problem for me."
ReplyDeleteAll well and good. But what about the blizzard employees and their families posted above? For example, does Greg Canessa's wife and family not deserve the same concern you are giving others?
The fact that stores sell guns pisses me off. People use those guns to harm and even kill innocent people.
ReplyDeleteI am going to go to one of those stores and buy a gun and shoot the gun owner in the head to prove to all of you how dangerous this really is. That will show you.
----
You are not righteous. The only thing you are doing is showing everyone you are mean.
Blizzard can not have it both ways. If they display my personal information, and information about my friends and family, then they also condone what is being done here. What is the reason blizzard gives to back their decision to display this information? There is no reason that i can think of to force users to display their name.
ReplyDeleteThe company Blizzard, as a whole made the decision to do it, not these specific employees.
ReplyDeleteSo why are most of you witch hunting these people?
You are sad and fail at life.
"Blizzard can not have it both ways. If they display my personal information, and information about my friends and family, then they also condone what is being done here."
ReplyDelete-------------------------
IF they do. But they haven't yet.
We don't know if this will happen for sure, especially after all the outrage over the announcement.
But all this information about blizzard employees (and families) has been posted with absolutely no concern about the possible ramifications or dangers that could befall them. Yet the blogger here feels: "If one person, anywhere, is harmed by this that is one person too many."
Do you not see the hypocrisy here?
I don't like the realid idea at all, and I can agree it serves no good purpose. But neither does posting all these people's family names, addresses, criminal records etc. Especially with the argument "if they do this"....
Keep up the good work, and don't forget Vivendi, they own Activision Blizzard, CEO is Jean Bernard Levy
ReplyDeleteShe's HAWT.
ReplyDelete'course, I wouldn't have had any idea of that without a first and last name.
Next time I'm in WoW I'll have to chat her up to see if she likes me.
Easiest way to shut down this site, is for blizzard to announce that they have decided not to display peoples personal info and never will. Its that easy
ReplyDeleteI decided to do a little experiment with Facebook... Not gonna post names here but the following people have accepted friend requests from me:
ReplyDeleteA current "Social Media Manager" of Activision
A current "Senior Manager Financial Reporting" of Activision
A former "Senior Vice President and Managing Director" of Activision
A current very high-up person in CONCACAF (the football body)
I have access to their full profiles including photos, personal email addresses etc. Not gonna do anything malicious and will inform them about the trap they have fallen into when the time is right. Just goes to show how poorly protected these people are. Kids are gonna get hurt because of this Real ID malarkey.
"This is just a quick one, I don't have much time right now. This guy seems to be quite important in the policy making process at Activision. It's funny how careful these big guys are, but their wives just can't keep as private."
ReplyDeleteObviously the "owner" of this blog doesn't truly know the concept of time. How much time did it take you to "research" and post here???
Oh that's right.... you are probably the typical douche bag loser, who sits in his parents basement all day play MMO's and has no life. Get job! Get a life!
So you don't agree with Real ID... that is no reason to "virtually harass" everybody that happens to have an association with Blizzard. I bet you would give your left ball to work there if they came calling.
If you don't like it... don't post... it's that simple.
So tell me, is any of this collective freakout NOT about fear that mommy will find your porn stashes?
ReplyDeleteSad little nerds. You think nonsense from sites designed to spread information and the omfg PHONE BOOK are a threat? That you're internet sleuths for Googling a clerk of court?
Get some sunshine and otherwise scrub the reek of pathos off then reconsider your idiot lives.
Although interesting in theory, this "public" information has been public for years and years. Want to know who worked on any Blizzard game? Check out the credits. Or MobyGames, like here http://www.mobygames.com/game/world-of-warcraft-wrath-of-the-lich-king. Or any half-dozen places.
ReplyDeleteThis has been public information for years and years and nobody has done anything about this in the past.
Canessa is the person that is the director of this project. So good job picking him out.
ReplyDeleteYou know, at the end of the day I find it funny that everyone here is so outraged over Blizzard wanting your first and last name on the forums (which by the way, legally is not considered "private/personal information" in and of itself) isn't more outraged by the fact that all of this information is out there to begin with.
ReplyDeleteI mean, for the right price, you can find information on just about anybody. For free, you can find a substantial amount of information. The price tag gets you some even nicer details.
The reality is, our focus should be on why much of this is a matter of public record, rather than whether or not Blizzard wants to post your names on their forums.
After all, I'm sure blogspot complies with federal and state laws surrounding harassment. The joke will ultimately be on you.
Quote, "you DONT HAVE TO USE THE FORUMS."
ReplyDeleteThis is Blizzard's argument as well. But the choice between posting and not posting is a false one. People who wish to keep their information private, but who need help with the game, will not be able to post on the Customer Service or Technical Service forums. Instead they will be forced to try and enlist a GM within game itself (which can often take days), or call it in. While this may seem to be a fair option, it really isn't. Blizzard's help line is often full with up to 45 minute wait times on a normal day. Help often comes within minutes to those who post on the forums; often help from another player. But the problem here is two-fold. Not only will the players who want to remain private be forced off of the help forums, but many of the helpful players who help answer questions for the CSRs will as well. And so those who do remain on the forums with their real names will not experience the same level of service at before. It'll be a big loss for everyone.
BTW, apparently Blizzard has tweaked their censors to block the addy of this very site. :(
ReplyDeleteThis isn't just about raw information, folks. I have my real name on my Facebook page and I don't worry about it. This is also about the context under which the information is being disseminated. A World of Warcraft account is not a Facebook page whom you share between loved ones. It is a video game with a highly competitive user base. There is in-game griefing going on all the time. People put a lot of effort into maintain ninja lists and black lists. Not only are the sore feelings between players genuine, but often inflated by that desire to compete. You mix that with real information and you're ASKING FOR physical consequences to in-game conflicts.
ReplyDeletequote: "This is just a quick one, I don't have much time right now. This guy seems to be quite important in the policy making process at Activision. It's funny how careful these big guys are, but their wives just can't keep as private."

Spoken like a true blizzard employee.
You're finding people who have established lives, but how about the immature teen crowd of wow players who most likely will do something to piss someone off.
ReplyDeleteFinding someone like that would make more of an argument to why this is bad, then say someone with a personalized honeymoon website.
Interestingly enough, my WoW sub has now lapsed. I can log into Bnet still but I am unable to post in WoW forums.
ReplyDeleteGosh, it seems like my usage of forums is dependent on cash that I hand over. I guess people who don't post will get discounts for not using it, right? Right?
Someone said random employees shouldn't suffer for decisions made by management. I beg to differ. If your customers are uncomfortable with your plans, well hey, let's just find some who like them. If your employees risk their publicly available personal info by working for you, it risks your business. Affecting their cash flow in ways besides simply cancelling your account, while incredibly harsh and unfair to the employees, is still a workable idea.
ReplyDeleteYes, that sounds mean. Yes, it is. So is enforcing stupidity and lack of privacy through 'glitches' and a flawed system to a playerbase of millions. If they don't like it, maybe they'll speak up too and something will get done.
Trolls are usually teens, they won't care because their name won't show up and they usually use their mom or dad's name.
ReplyDeleteWonderful site. I love what you're doing. It's all exactly as legal as the harassment that allowing this ridiculous real-name-forum-posting bullshit is going to allow. I see no legal issues here.
ReplyDeleteIt's unfortunate that the wives and children of the honchos are the sacrificial lambs, ethically speaking. But you know what? It's the only way you're going to get through to them that this is a horrible idea. Hit them where it hurts... right in the family tree.
Oh wow, Mister CEO didn't like his wifey's information posted on the interwebs? Well, Mister Average Joe isn't going to like it any more than you do. So fix your bullshit.
Thanks again. What a wonderful way to stick it to these profiteering scumbags.

I don't necessarily LIKE what needs to be done to point out what a bad idea this is -- but hopefully, neither do these employees.
ReplyDeleteBlizzard employees don't make these decisions, no. But they DO have avenues of communication that we don't. And if enough of them have a problem with their information being spread around the internet -- hey, it's just a name, it's not a big deal, right? -- then they have people they can go to and complain.
We don't. Because they refuse to listen to us.
I've left. I won't participate in another Blizzard game as long as this remains standard policy.
to the topic "told by a friend of a friend":
ReplyDeletethis is exactly the way how "information" is collected if you know the real name of someone. (internet or real life) it shows exactly what happens in the peoples brains.
it may be not true, but that doesn't matter. -_-
great job and great blog.
You're all retarded.
ReplyDeleteJust stop playing Blizzard/Activision games. It's the only way to vote.
We're hoping to protest this change by attempting to decrease WoW forum traffic. Check out http://saynotorealid.blogspot.com/if you're interested in deleting all of your forum posts.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU for doing this work. I am still hanging on to a glimmer of hope that Blizzard will see exactly how terribly they have fucked this one up...
ReplyDeleteFor all of the people saying "IF YOU DONT LIKE IT DONT POST OMG ITS OPTIONAL" you are failing to see an EXTREMELY important aspect of this scenario: the fact that if you become someone's RealID friend, you can see ALL OF THEIR FRIENDS. It's just like Facebook.
ReplyDeleteSituation: Person A never posts on the forums. Not once. They like being anon. However, they are RealID friends with a few of their close buddies in their guild, this helps them chat when they want to and keep in touch. All is working as intended. However, Person A does something that irritates someone else. It can be malicious, such as ninja looting, or seemingly harmless, as beating them in an arena match in a completely fair game OR EVEN SIMPLY WINNING AN ITEM OVER THEM IN A COMPLETELY FAIR ROLL/VOTE/ETC. LYou can imagine a plethora of reasons, and that is the point: in WoW you fight against other people, you get loot over other people, etc etc etc etc. These things happen.
Now Person Z might shrug it off. They could be pissed as hell. They could go to the armory, look up that person, and find all of their guildmates. They then RealID request every person in your guild. Person C happens to be super social nice guy who is RealID friends with Person A, and he accepts Person Z's friend request. Person Z now potentially has access to Person A's name. He doesn't know who he is but Person Z is quite possibly on that list, especially if, say, Person C was in that arena match / in that raid / etc.
TLDR: Person A never posted, never accepted any random RealID friendship or anything, never did ANYTHING WRONG IN THE SLIGHTEST, but now, via the RealID system, anyone can get his or her name.
And that is a very bad thing.

It's OK for a poster to be forced to disclose his/her name, but the readers and Blizzard employees can all remain anonymous. Happy stalking!
ReplyDeleteHey, I play games to get AWAY from real life. So, are role-playing threads reduced to status update threads on Facebook? Well, at least the real comedy will be finally figuring out who all the sad losers who weren't trolls are.
ReplyDeleteA lot of harm is coming.
ReplyDeleteI know I got pissed off at times when I still played. I know real creeps that had fun harassing people. I know how much fun 14-16 year olds can have just harassing people again and again and again. Break down and cry and beg to stop? Why, when its just starting to be fun?
So you write to the forums? Been ganking the wrong person?
Ever seen the movie Cape Fear? Enjoy.
Anyone wants to bet how long it will take before there are the first Real-ID induced murders, rapes or suicides due to harassment? Because that is what will happen.
Maybe the psychotic freaks won't POST anymore. But they will certainly enjoy READING.
Whoops, "a lot of harm is coming" sounds like a threat to someone. Which it is not. Just wanted to say that with Real-ID, people will get harmed and harassed. A lot. Maybe beaten, raped, or even killed.
ReplyDeleteThis is a bad idea.
Even though this is publicly available, my account just got permabanned from the wow-eu forums. You may want to add that...im not mad at you or anything (im actually happy for my privacy), but still you may want to warn people.
ReplyDeleteI just got perma-banned on the Official EU WoW forums for linking here. My post has been deleted - the reason given in the Perma Ban was "harassment".
ReplyDeleteI was a polite, constructive member of the Druid community there, and I've never EVER received an infraction or warning about any conduct before.
I'm very glad I cancelled my sub last night. I don't want to be associated with Blizzard in any context after the stupid behaviour they're pulling on this for PR reasons.
This is pathetic. :-/
ReplyDeleteSubmitted this to Digg.. would appreciate if everyone dugg it up.
ReplyDeletehttp://digg.com/security/What_s_in_a_name_135
I'm pretty much against Blizzard's plans to use the Real ID system on the forums. That said, the creation of this website is just immature and everyone would be justified to call this a harassment tactic. You can keep trying to justify yourself that you are simply posting information about people that other people can google by themselves, but the fact is you are aware that by posting these information for everyone to see you are complicit to any harm that may befall these same people. You are even posting their family's names and whatnot. You know that people will be angry and may at some point begin to harass these families.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to protest Blizzard's moves, I'd suggest take a good look at what you are doing, and realize that you are not hurting Blizzard itself, but the people whose probably only fault in this issue is trying to make a good living for themselves and their families.
Real names will no longer be on the forums. Out of respect for the Blizzard employees, could you please remove this information?
ReplyDeleteThis was truly an educational and very informative project, but I think Blizzard deserves a cookie for listening to us.

"...realize that you are not hurting Blizzard itself, but the people whose probably only fault in this issue is trying to make a good living for themselves and their families. "
ReplyDeleteBlizzard itself consists of people who are just trying to make a living. It's not some completely separate entity.
And while it is true that striking the root, the heart of darkness, is almost always the most effective method of attack, it doesn't mean that the grunts are completely worthless targets. Especially in Blizzard's case where there are only few hundred of these said grunts. Many with quite rare skill sets, which makes them hard to replace in case some of them decide to raise a stink in-house at Blizzard or just downright quit.
Not to say I approve of the methods of this blog, but to me they seem tactically completely valid.
We won!

They changed because of sites like this! Thank you!!
Awesome!
ReplyDeleteyou have no idea how helpful this site has been. all this info posted here was enough to access some fb accounts, family sites, find pws, 2 cc#s and a battlenet pw. this all could have happened top wow players but now its happening to blizzard employees..thatll teach them to screw with us right?
ReplyDeleteof course this info will only be used for demostration purposes..lol
So the bottom line here is that for them to say they were going to do this was incredibly ... uhhh.... stupid?
ReplyDeleteNow they've got people digging up all their employees info.
Talk about not thinking things through. Ignorance is truly bliss. Nothing is private anymore. I think we all know that at heart.
When Blizzard says they're going to show our real names in a forum people go completely ape because it is a clear reminder that your info is out there, for the taking. ;)
"Blizzard itself consists of people who are just trying to make a living. It's not some completely separate entity."
ReplyDeleteDo you even realize that most of these "grunts" do not even have a say on the matter? Most of them are even just against it as us. And you wanted to send a message to the people at the top in Blizzard, but in the process you hurt those "grunts". Cruel. Just cruel.
It's like holding these people and their families at gunpoint, and saying "Alright Blizzard. Abandon this Real ID bullshit, and we'll let these people and their identities go. Otherwise, prepare for a world of hurt."
Good job. You're nothing more than those anarchists and terrorists who'd kill people to get what they want.

ReplyDeleteYou mean like Blizzard wanted to do to all the forum posters ? And no posting on the forums isn't completely "optional" with the tech support and customer service forums
When your opponent goes to ground you leave no ground to go to.
No One (as far as we know) got physically hurt. Some were scared, some were inconvenienced, and the point got made.
No one got hurt? One of them emptied out their bank account to hire personal security because of the physical threats of violence they were getting daily. How is that not harm? You cost someone an inordinate amount of money, someone who had no involvement with the RealID decisions. Yeah way to prove a point.
ReplyDeleteI would just like to inform the person who created this site that you are now under investigation of the authorities because of actions that have transpired as a result of your post. What has been done here has been classified as terrorist threats. I suggest you make try to bury your tracks and remove this site. But I dont think that will help and I hope it doesn't. See there is such a thing as Karma and what goes around does come around. I hope you enjoy jail.

ReplyDeleteDo you have any proof?
Hahahaha I saw one of them while I was driving by the Blizzard campus. I tried tailgating them to scare them but a cop was at the next light. Score one for us.
ReplyDeleteThe guy who posted the comment just above this one Is a fucking idiot child
ReplyDeleteDo you have any proof?
ReplyDeleteAre you fucking stupid or something you can find out all this information about these people but you cant find this out yourself and are asking someone here for proof. I guess it's a bit harder to play hacker when it requires more than just a facebook page.
YOU ARE A LOOSER AND A FAGGET MAYBE SOME DAY YOU WILL MOVE OUT OF YOUR PARENTS HOUSE IN YOUR MID 40S!!!! MAYBE SOMEDAY YOU WILL LOOSE YOUR VIRGINITY TO A GIRL FATTER THAN YOU!!!! MAYBE SOMEDAY YOU WILL REALIZE THAT YOUR ACTIONS ARE THOSE OF A LONELY PATHETIC BOY!!!!! MAYBE SOMEDAY YOU WILL REALIZE THAT YOU DID THIS BECAUSE THE FEEDBACK ON THIS SITE IS THE CLOSEST THING YOU HAVE EVER HAD TO REAL HUMAN CONTACT OR INTERACTION!!!! YOU ARE THE MOST SORRY EXCUSE OF A MISERABLE HUMAN BEING IN PROBABLY THE WORLD!!!
"The guy who posted the comment just above this one Is a fucking idiot child"
ReplyDeleteLike anyone didn't see this coming once their personal information was posted. While I agree that the RealID thing was utter bullshit, hurting innocent people wasn't the best way to go about it. Sure it got the task done but this caused a lot of harm to people who had nothing to do with the situation.
What would have happened if the blog owner posted personal information about just some no-name player? How many people would have reacted the same way? Not very many. Same thing with celebrity scandals. Some regular Joe dies and no one cares but if a celebrity dies it's a big deal across the media. Right now, Blizzard is the big celebrity in the gaming world so their employees have a higher profile in the public. So outing their personal information has a higher risk of collateral damage.
But now we see people have been harassing them even after the fact and it's too late to do anything about it since the genie is already out of the bottle. As much as I hate to say it, I hope someone gets hurt and everyone who was here rooting for him feels some kind of guilt over it. But it's the internet and no one cares about anyone except themselves.
Face it guys, innocent people get hurt and sometimes it needs to be done to make a point. Thats not fair, but that's life.
ReplyDeleteYou guys should be THANKFUL this blog did what it did. The writer of this blog was a good guy setting out to make a good point. Would you really rather have preferred someone else to do it, who potentially didn't have good intentions, and could have seriously wanted to cause harm?
Thankfully, the person who made this blog made the point before someone potentially much more malicious, felt the need to do it.
We know people might've been upset IRL over this. We know they are just 'little guys'. But somebody needs to pay the price to make the big powerful guys sit up and listen. Is that fair? No. But that's life, and life isnt fair.
Wow. Hurt the little innocents to make a bigger point. I guess we should go and kill the civilians in Iraq just to make the Taliban and Al Qaeda pay. Sure it's a far stretch but might as well take that line of thinking all the way.
ReplyDelete"Face it guys, innocent people get hurt and sometimes it needs to be done to make a point. Thats not fair, but that's life."
ReplyDeleteCausing someone not involved financial hardship is not what was needed. Let's say one of the posts above stating that someone paid for security due to violent threats is factual and not just bullshit. What if it was Lee and Kacy's wedding money? What if it was Darian and Jennifer's wedding money? What if that money was something they needed to pay for a pet's emergency vet bill or one of them needed the money for emergency car repairs so they can get to work? That price is completely worth it?
What if that money was needed to pay for rent or just to make it by with bills? The little guys aren't the ones swimming in money like the upper levels of management; they're the ones who are barely scraping by with just enough to make a living. And you want to endanger that just so you can make a point because "it needs to be done." I really hope someone does that to you some day.
I still don't under you peoples issue. Did Blizzard only want you to post your real name? Did they ask for an address, phone number, place where you work, drivers licence number or any other personal information other than just a name that could be used to tie you to a particular individual. Example someone named Mike Smith is playing this game if that is all the personal information you have you really have nothing Useful in finding out there personal info. Until you have some other personal info. to start with . Other wise a player of this game with the name of mike smith is just one of millions of mike smit
ReplyDeleteYou're pretty stupid if you believe that.
ReplyDeleteMany people have a Character name and are in a guild. Did you know that many guilds have websites? And private forums? And people in the same guild often talk to each other, revealing little innocent things, like how the storms are bad in XXX state currently, and how they are planning to attend local XXX concert etc etc.
If you honestly think that 'just a name' is inconsequential, you're naive.
No, I didn't know that what the fuck is a guild is you nerd. I have sex with girls you are speaking a language I don't understand called I'm still a virgin.
ReplyDeleteEven assuming all the people saying "Just don't post, just don't use it" had a valid point (which they don't since you have to use the forums for tech support/customer support/etc), can you please tell me how to guarantee that no one who has the same name as me posts to them? You can't, because there isn't a way. Unless there is, "just don't post" is NOT a solution.
ReplyDeletehey retarded faggets my name is Mark Williams and I live in Orange County California can any of you find out anything on me Fuck You Bitches
ReplyDeleteDoes living in "Orange County California can" means Mark Williams lives in a toilet?
ReplyDelete"I really hope someone does that to you some day. " - this site is set up to expressly prevent Blizzard from NOT doing it some day, not to the site owner, nor all the WoW players.
ReplyDeleteNo, Blizzard isn't/wasn't doing that. They weren't advertising your Facebook links on a page set up to specifically oust innocent people. People need to realize they aren't as important as they think they are.
ReplyDeleteLOLZ you guys aren't even targeting the right ppl! Real ID was Rob Pardo's idea -- he announced at last years Blizcon and has said in interviews from back then that it is his brainchild.
ReplyDeleteWhats more, the forums are run by the web team at Blizz, not bnet. Canessa had nothing to do with this decision. In fact, according to the press articles, he was at Blizzard 3 months when they announced all this RealID stuff -- there is no way he could have come up with this stuff in that short period of time. There is a whole discussion about this right now lol.
So, just goes to show how inaccurate this approach is. Here you are exposing guys like Canessa, and especially his family when none of them had anything to do with this. You just assumed, and assumed wrong in this case, to the detriment of his family. Nice work.
YA you fuckin retarded fucks
ReplyDeletePlease take down the page, especially the stuff on the families. They are getting harassed by the crazies and that's not fair. Blizzard moved very quickly to reverse itself after announcing the original policy. Give it a break. Everyone makes mistakes, even Blizzard. Please stop hurting the innocent just to make a point. Thank you in advance.
ReplyDeleteFUCK THIS THIS SITE YOU ARE PATHETIC !!!
ReplyDeleteI find it amusing that the people who are posting in support of Real ID, or in support of this blog being removed, aren't using their real names HERE... If the Real ID system is so great or "nothing to worry about" why aren't they posting with their names?
ReplyDeletesorry I figure out how to post my real name but it is Mark Williams fuck you. I am not for or against it. and I do believe you are not as important as you think you are and no one is going to know who you are just with name
ReplyDeleteWho would name their child "Mark Williams Fuck You"...? Bet that raised some eyebrows in the church during christening.
ReplyDelete"Please stop hurting the innocent" - how does posting information in the public domain hurt them? Duplicating public details about them on another site causes them injury?
ReplyDeleteWow that was such an insult did you spend the better half of recorded history trying to think of that? when you stop playing dundeons and dragons, stop dressing up as an elf and other such creatures, stop believing you are really your game caracter, And stop jacking off to the female elf in lord of the rings. then maybe I could take something you say seriously. Until then all I hear from you is please give me a wedgie will someone please pull my panties up to my ears. So fffffffuuuuuuuucccccccccccckkkkkkkkkk yyyyyyyooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu !!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, anyone else think "Mark Williams" has some serious self-loathing going on here....?
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to bother looking people up. Really, if you think the amount of info collated here is dangerous, go to spokeo.com and look up your own name. I did on the advice of someone in another ReadID thread and damn, there were pictures of my apartment, my son's name and phone number... scary amounts of information. If you have even a moderately uncommon name, just your name is enough to lead anyone right to you.
"Blizzard moved very quickly to reverse itself after announcing the original policy"
ReplyDeleteYeah the wankers were quick to suck up to the community and act like they really do listen and value us weren't they. Actually fuck that, they are money grabbing corporate bastards, online store with ingame items anyone ?
"dundeons and dragons"... wow, that grammer and spelling is almost as bad as Mark Williams! Someone may confuse you with him (I presume it is a he, I'm not sure).
ReplyDeleteI don't think Blizzard would have moved so fast if news like this appeared, and I think that as long as this site is up then Blizzard will think twice.
Do you really believe that this site is holding blizzard at ransom?
ReplyDelete>>I don't think Blizzard would have moved so fast if news like this appeared, and I think that as long as this site is up then Blizzard will think twice.
ReplyDeleteYes. Keep this site up FOREVER! I'm very worried that Blizzard hasn't quite learned their lesson yet.
And RealID fans: Between the ignorant content of your posts, and the fact that you're anonymous and unaccountable for your actions, I have no choice but to conclude that you are all trolling. Fanboys who would like to be taken seriously should be sure to include their full name and email address in their posts.
I actually walked right the fuck away from WoW after close to 5 years of play. I was hands-down one of the best Warriors on Tanaris, and just said "you know what, fuck this , I have principles." Account canceled, characters deleted.
ReplyDeleteAnatole, Darkness and Straitjacket on Tanaris. all former members of the guild.
There's not even a hope that any of this Real ID crap will go away, it will only get worse and more intrusive, so I won't be buying any more Activision products. I will not participate in the endangering of children, or even the lesser indignities of back-door marketing to their parents who's credit cards they use to play games like WoW.
WOW is shit now, end game consist of halion and lk 25 hardmode since 11/12 hardmodes are fucking retarded like faceroll.
ReplyDeletegood job on making the only decent content in the game crap blizzard, only 5 months of halion and lk left till cataclysm then we can see if it's more dumbed down crap as well.
Same ICC content since november 09 wtf.
